But can you guess as to why the following might be happening:
1) The password is still "temp", and we verified that by checking dataconn_inc.asp ; 2) People are able to place new ads, etc. ; 3) We then download the DB. Sometimes we are able to open up the DB just downloaded with the password "temp", but only see the USERS table. At other times, we cannot open the same DB with any password, and get a "password not valid" message even when using the password "temp".
So what can the problem be? , Hi
ASPBanner is great...
I have a little problem I have a ASP site http://www.bythebeach.com.au/
I understand how Zones (location on a pages) works but i need only to display those banners that pertain only to that catorgries or sub catorgries.
How would i do that would .... Would i have to add a new field in the database...?
Any help would be greatly apprecaited

, ASPProtect Version 7 Expiry Notices go out to members who have recently renewed by subscription.
When an existing member from ASPProtect Version 6, with an expiry date, renews with SUBSCRIPTION in v7, the previous expiry date remains unchanged. We assume the expiry date remains blank with NEW Subscriptions and that Paypal takes care of notifications.
But our notifications to the "about to expire" dating from v6 catches the "Renewed by subscrtiption" as well, as the date has nor been changed or removed, and this REALLY confuses our members.
Can this be resolved? , Done!
I was able to put my experience was based on *40 months* of usage! I
think I bought a version way back in 2001, IIRC, so it's been a long,
happy trip with ASPProtect for me!
, I am trying to import a file, and I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6 If Session("Admin") <> "True"
-----------------------------^ Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you. , It is common when testing a site that this happens because of the nature of session variables.
Admins have access to EVERYTHING so it is very important when testing different user accounts that you specifically log out... and then close every single browser window before logging in as a different user. This is to ensure session info from the previous user does not overlap in any areas. (The session variable for admin access being the main one)
Under normal circumstances a user would not log in with many different accounts on the same computer this this would only be a problem for a developer who is testing.
So make sure you go to the to log-off page and log off.. then close all browser windows.. then test another user.
If all this is not the case then something else is going on and I will need more information. I pretty much know the level checking code for ASPProtect Version 6 is correct as there has been no reason to change any of it in over a year. I would have heard reports of problems with it. , Awesome -thanks - I'll give it a try , The pages in the ASProtect Full version that have emailing code in them are as follows.
password_admin/email_user.asp
password_admin/send_mass_email.asp
users/add_new_account.asp
users/email_password.asp , The redirection feature isn't working as I exected.
If I clear a user's redirection_URL, they can navigate to any protected page on my website as expected.
However, if I set the user's redirection_URL to a protected page, they cannot login. More specifically, their browser just keeps displaying the login form while the browser's progress bar just increments ad infinitum.
If I set the user's redirection_URL to a NON-protected page, the user is directed to that non-protected page, but if they then try to navigate to a protected page, they are redirected back to the redirection_URL.
Is this the way the redirection feature is supposed to work?
My application requires that a user is directed to a protected page and from there, they can navigate to any page that they are allowed to go to.
What can I do? , Using "Email Authentication" as a registration option you cannot do that. There is no possible way I know of to have a delay on the authentication email like that. Also that method is not intended to involve any sort of manual registration like what you are doing.
Because you want to review people manually you need to change to registration process to "manual" and then send the email out manually from the users screen after making a user active. , also, just to show you what happens when a user creates a subscription this is the code. you can see in red where the subscrition is is set and also where the exp date is set to null

What Format should be used for dates and does international friendly dates affect the date as used by the reminder ?
Am having serious problems with renewal notices and expiration dates.
All member sign ups are for 1 yr., yet new members are being sent
renewal notices.
Does Paypal use a different date system or has does
Paypal have nothing to do with Subscription dates?
, Actually this was rather easy to fix. Once you restrict the permissions on the folder, open up IIS admin. Goto the selected folder, and right click/properties. Once there you modify directory listing and add defauly.asp to documents. This will provide an automatic load with you enter in the unmask route. , Can ASPClassifieds display the ads by city?
I have a web directory that lists websites and companies by city. Is it possible to have specific ads shown to the user depending on what city they click on? For example, only ads in New York would be shown to users that have already clicked on that city in my directory.
thanks, , oh, its timing out during the import ??
I didnt know that. I thought you said it was timing out after when you tried to log in.
That changes everything...
Let me start again cause I think I know the problem., I do not have any programming knowledge and have what might be a simple question.
I am having a hard time getting my hosting company to modify the rights on the data folder. They state they support ASP and access databases however this is the response I got when I requested the modify permissions set for the internet guest account:
Were the rights changed on the data folder? No, we do not manage rights to folders.
My question to you is: Doesn't supporting asp require those permissions be set on the database folder or can asp (not just aspprotect) work without those rights modified?
Thanks , I encountered the same problem and eventually found out that my Norton protection was not allowing scripts to work so I had to uncheck the setting before the banners reappeared., Have tried doing that but same error...
,
I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.
<% If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then SearchFlag = True End If If SearchFlag <> True Then If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then %> <!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" --> <head> <title>My Title</title>
</head>
<body>
My Protected stuff here
</body>
</html>
For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.
Thanks,
Mo
I just added couple of lines and it works fine
If (Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")) = "xxx.xx.xxx.xxx" Then ' Session("PasswordAccess") = "Yes" SearchFlag = true End If , Then you should have current enough code.
If you PM me the encryption key you are using and the plain text password for this user I can see if I can reproduce the error and come up with a fix.
I believe you found one of the rare examples where the encryption creates a strange character that messes up things. Sometimes those characters are not even visable.
Changing the password should solve the problem in the meantime., Oh snap. Tried the blank database and got the same errors. Fixed THE
FILE PATHS to conform to the AspProtect 7 setup, and it worked like a
champ. I still need to copy and paste the info, but it's working just
fine with the ones I add manually.
Moral of the story: FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER.
, With ASPVendor you must use the SQL scripts we provide with the SQL Version to create the SQL database or else fields will not get set correctly.
I wish you would have told me you were using SQL server. It's important details like that that allow me to help and troubleshoot. , Is there any way to extend the limit multiple login feature to a certain number instead all or none? In other words, i need to have a user be able to use the same login for x number of people. My customers are institutions and want to be able to have a single login for however many users they purchase for. , Hi. Chris. I'm not a programmer of any sorts, so I am not comfortable plugging in the changes you suggested and not knowing for sure if it will "break something somewhere else". If the programmer tells me "you have been warned", its a pretty good sign its a no win situation. If you don't know, theres no way i can know.
I saw in the code where you mentioned the changes. I don't see where it mentions the last name is required either, but the bottom line is it does require it it the actual new user form.
Thanks anyway Chris. I'll figure something out.

, Just an update,,,

Thanks Folks.
, Yeah sorry you are right. It works for me
http://www.rottys.net/gallery/default.asp?CatLevel=2&Cat 1_ID=5
, This isn't going to help you much but here is the deal.
The 2checkout support in ASPProtect actually is not supposed to work with 2checkout subscriptions and therefore does not need to use an item number.
It is intended to be used for single payments only with 2checkout as explained in this thread. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo212-1.htm
Single payments with 2checkout use their shopping cart which allows for dynamic payments without needing an item number.
I agree with you that 2checkout's interface is confusing. It's actually about the worst system I have ever seen. I could not make a 2Checkout subscription system because their system is just too limited and I couldn't make it work the way it really needed to.
, Testing for XML Parser Support
the microsoft xml parser is generally installed by default on all new server setups..
It allows ASP code to make calls to other pages anywhere on the new as well as a lot of other handy things..
download and run this ".asp" page to verfiy that it is installed and be sure it is available for you to use
2004-12-10_132620_test_xmlparser.zip
Make sure you run it from your web server through the web browser cwilliams38331.5621180556, (FREE) Nov 23 2005 Update Files
If you purchased ASPProtect Version 7.x before Nov 23 2005 then you can download these Update Files.
(These are non-critical updates.. only update if you want the described changes below)
These updates do the following..
- Make the Tabs in the Admin area move up and down as you navigate around so they look more like tabs used in a file cabinet.
- Updates the import/export process so the tab delimited text files created now store the passwords in plain text instead of encrypted. I have been thinking about this one for a while now and I think it is better this way as it was confusing a lot of people. If can also kill the whole process if by chance the encrypted output of a password contains a line break of sorts. There is no way to deal with that scenario so this is way the import/export process is going to work from now on. This also means you should be VERY carfeful about leaving export files lying around as they will have the passwords in them.
- Updates the "expected_paths.asp" in the data folder because the paths it was generating had an extra "data/" in it.
- Updates the users page so it will not show the import/export link if you have not entered a path for the export files in the settings.
- Adds an Activity Tab if using the Activity Tracking features instead of the links it used to put on the users page that most people didn't see.

To install these just copy them in over the old files.
Now of course back up your existing files so can revert back if there is a problem or you do not like the changes. If you made any custom changes to any of your pages use your head and realize that copying these in over your existing files will overide any custom changes you made. (that is your business, I am just warning you)

, Thanks, I really appreciate you working on this. The software works GREAT and the support you give can't be beat. I will definately tell other that are looking for software for their sites to check your first.
one more question.
To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.
Just want to make sure I am on the right track.
Thanks , FYI. There is a typo in the upgrade (6.0 to 7.0) instructions. It specifies adding a field named "passwords". Should be "password"., you would have to edit the application in visual studio.net.. change some things around and recompile the application... in the process figuring out how you want to handle all of that (probably combining the username and email fields just on the registration form then saving both values to the database)
very doable.. just not anything documented or supported as it is custimization
I do have a very nice article on the forums on how to set up a project in visual studio.net with the application.. it is in the forums, When adding a new user I am taken to a form.
There are several "required fields".
First and last names are 2 of them.
This is not needed by me and I need the company name as a required field instead. I work and deal with company names, not individuals.
So, i am unable to add any users due to this.
How can I either do away with the names as a required field or swap the individual names with the company name as a required field?
I have customers wanting to be able to view their own stats, but I need to do away with the required fields to work with my customer base.
-john , I am sending you a PM with the new download url
see instructions above for what to do with it, OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.
What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.
I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.
Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.
Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.
That is all I can think of right now. , Ok, for starters what is the real error ? Please read this. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
2nd I always recommend using CDOSYS before any other email component. All servers have it running by default and ASPProtect supports some a html editor if you use that component. I would give that a try as well. It's the best emailing option. ,
The only reason no one else
asked this many questions is possibly because they didnt NEED the functions i
am TRYING to do.
We offer tech support for
installation of the base application purchased in it's native form.
In other words were not planning on spending weeks holding your hand and
teaching you how to build your application or modify the one you bought. Not
because anyone wants to make it hard on you but because there is a practically infinite
number of things someone could be trying to do and the only way to give you the
exact answer would pretty much involve either writing it for you or having a
look at your code to see what the heck your doing. Sorry but my time isn’t cheap
nor do I have a lot to spare. I already gave you my approach on what to do and
what you should be looking at but obviously you’re not catching on. SO ONCE
AGAIN, PLEASE LOOK AT THE SOURCE CODE AND DECIDE HOW YOU WANT TO HANDLE YOUR
END OF THINGS BASED ON HOW THE APP DOES ITS THING. I really don’t know how I
can be more clear that that. I don’t have a crystal ball that can tell me where
you’re going with your own code, what the final requirements are... what field
you want to add or remove for the database etc. There is a demo up that
everyone can look at and play with so they can get a feel for how the things
behave and look. It’s not my fault your naivety led you to believe you could do
anything with it in ten seconds. I mean if I just add some wings to my car
maybe it will fly, and if you just add a shopping cart and a few products maybe
you can start your own Amazon.com with that software right? Sounds good to me…
It would take me longer to re-write YOUR code
than it would to have LEARNED ASP.NET and made MY OWN.
Well thats one thing we both agree on, I bet it would take you a long
time to rewrite the code when you dont know how to write it in the
first place. By you own admission you dont know enough about what your
doing to be messing
with a .NET app at this point. Maybe you should take your own advice
and LEARN
SOMETHING ABOUT IT. What’s even worse is that application isnt even
complicated, its 101 stuff honestly. One class, thats it! Your not
looking at thousands
and thousands of them that you will have to read and comprehend. If you
can
actually “read” the code we kept it lean and mean and to the point.
Nothing
strange or random, no references to a zillion things all sprinkled here
and
there. Its reads like a book if you know the language. That’s why
developers
buy these apps all the time. Not because they couldn’t write one
themselves,
but because they know their time is valuable as well and for $150 which
is less
than most get paid an hour they couldn’t be bothered. Furthermore we
both spend a lot of time making sure these apps are "dumbed down" so
that the average programmer without a lot of object oriented background
can pick up the coding style tweak it if they need to. Some people do
modify things to suite their needs and
others are
happy with our apps "as is".
Just to recap we already wasted two days yappin about your
jacked up servers and after you went through THREE of them and finally got one
working you said the code was working. Red lights started flashing in my office
by the time you got to the second screwed up machine, but hey weird things
happen so at that point I wasn’t 100% concerned. Technically we could have and
possible should have cut you off there as the policy in place is pretty clear
about us not being your tech support crew when it comes to getting your machine
working properly (especially one we cant even look at). Go check those posts
again both Chris and I were answering your questions and being as helpful as
anyone could possibly expect.
Several more days have been spent answering questions about
how to modify your application and again that’s not our responsibility and we don’t
support modified versions of the software for all the reasons that should be
obvious. No software company does and if I have to explain why that is well this
conversation is beyond hope.
Bottom line is the responsibility to support that
application ends the moment you get it running the way it was shipped. Were
pretty damn decent about going above and beyond and a lot of the time we go
into things we shouldn’t have to. If you have well thought out and specific
questions by all means ask, this isn’t some sort of thanks for your money now
get lost operation. CJWSoft has been around since the beginning of Microsoft’s
entrance into the web application market. We have thousands and thousands of
happy customers because we are developers and enjoy working with other
developers along the way.
You’re not the first N0oB to show up, but you’re the first
one I can think of that ever tried to tell us we didn’t write the apps we sell and essentially
wanted to argue that we don’t know what were talking about. Meanwhile you
should have been done with your thing days and days and days ago, not in here
yapping off and showing your ignorance to the other developers that regularly
browse these forums. You trying to tell me how CafePress works is a joke, I happened
to have been part of the team that worked on the first few revisions of that
site and again you really didn’t even understand what I was getting at in that
last post. LINK TO LOGIN PAGE not link to every protected page on the site.
If you think I am pissed off at you, your wrong. I'm
just irritated with the whining about this and that and rather than
admit your over your head you come back with half baked remarks that
only make sense to you. If you think you can
google
a few terms and come back here talking smack like you’re actually
someone that
knows what you’re talking about your just making a fool of yourself.
You sound like a guy from China trying to tell me how to speak
English... My
advice
is get a few books and start learning or try actually reading up and
listening
to the other bazillion knowledgeable developers out there that do a
great job
posting articles about the subject. You might just learn something and
actually
get your project finished before 2010 and when you do please come back
and
re-read your posts with "enlightened eyes" so you can see what a goofball you are for saying half
of the
things you have said. I am not in the mood to keep helping you get your
project done step by step. I have huge projects of my own going on and
if I thought you could actually provide a descent project specification
I might offer to make the changes for you at a serious discount so you
could go away and everyone would be happy. Problem is I dont get the
feeling you could explain your way out of a paper bag let alone provide
a group of programmer the techinal specs for your project.
Your best bet is to post a link to the start of
this thread at www.AngryCoder.com I'm sure a few of people over there would be more than willing to give you a ton of usefull advice
Google 4GuysFromRolla… a great resource site with example, just
dont come back here telling me those guys/ladies posted things
that dont work either.
Chris has written hundreds of articles on PowerASP, a great
place to start looking as well… www.powerasp.com
I've been spitting out code for longer than I can remeber and I still look
thing up on this site because its LOADED with great info. That happens
to be one of the very first ASP sites that went up on the net so lets
just say he knows a bit or two about the subject.
I'm sure your frusturated but
your pushing your luck
seriously. 38 posts about this subject in a week and your over there
hacking away on your virus infested WaReZ machine which isnt exactally
the ideal development rig. I mean we provide the code and your supposed
to provide at
the least a very basic knowlege of what your doing and a production
grade platform to test it out on. To me thats like buying a
car and then asking how to drive it... then bugging the dealer to teach
you and when you smash the thing complaining because no one told you
that your not supposed to drive into a wall. I have the same policy as
the dealer, show me something wrong with the car from the factory and
we will fix it for you NO QUESTIONS at all with our appoligies, but
really once you take it off the lot what you do with it is your deal
and its not our responsability in the least.
