Hi, I am wondering if I can redirect users with "GROUPACCESS"
just like access levelS. I tried to redirect using both "Groups"
and "GROUPACCESS" example below:
If Session("GROUPACCESS") = "1" Then
I could only get the Access_Level to actually redirect. Is
this something the option pack supports? If so, any words of
I would also double check that you changed the field size correctly and on the correct database that is being used in the connection string,
import/export feature WARNING !!
I just want to warn everyone that the built in import/export feature can be a little dangerous.
The reason being is when you import users they get new "Users_ID"s in the database.
The "User_ID" field is an autonumber field and that is why and there is nothing you can do about it.
So, if you are using a user's current "User_ID" to keep track up something important NEVER export the users and re-import them. Because their "User_ID" will change and you will be in trouble.
The PayPal signup features of ASPProtect actually use the "User_ID" like this and that is the main reason this warning is here.
now, that being said
If you are importing new users into ASPProtect
simply exporting existing users to another system
then this is nothing to worry about.cwilliams38425.0597685185, And here is an even simpler version where the database name is hardcoded and the User_ID is set ahead of time from wherever you are getting it from
Basically, the moral of this story is dont think of the built in Import/Export feature as backup system because it is not. It is not a substistute for backing up your database.
It is a just a tool that can come in handy for various things.
'User_ID = CmdListUsers("User_ID") ' getting it from another database query
User_ID = Request("User_ID") ' getting it from the page post
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM Albums WHERE User_ID = " & User_ID & " AND Album_Active = 1" cwilliams38433.0595949074,
I want to create a user for my manager. This user should be able to see
all statistics (Reports) and all (Banners). But, he should not be able
to edit anything.
How can I create the type of user described above?
Not to be pushy, but how's the new version progressing?
I'm hoping these features will be in it:
- possibly add the ability to move pictures around in an album. and maybe between albums, I must also remember to move the ratings and desc as well for that image.
- possibly add a feature to store 3 versions of images uploaded
thumbnail, medium res, and high res/original
add option to store the images orginal name in the images description area during upload
may be helpful to people that name their images in a somewhat descriptive way
add support for the ibulc bulk upload client that I recently discovered
If you could use a beta tester, I'm still just setting up my site and would be willing to run a beta.
that really does not make any sense...,
I dont know what else to tell you as this really shouldn't be anything too difficult to sort out...
redirection based on criteria is not something aspprotect does by default... I try to help a bit... I've shown everyone how to do it in this thread...I know plenty of people doing it... I've done it myself... I know it works
let me ask you this... are you using ASPProtect 6 with the Option Pack ?
I assume you must be or you would not have the Groups feature ?
And you asked this question in the ASPProtect 6 section.
but then maybe your using 7.. I do not know
this should all work the same either way
whether you use SSL or not really does not effect aspprotect in any way,
I say, the smart thing to do there is too not start them off at a http:// url
one way to do it is put a simple ASP redirect on that default page and send them to an SSL version of the page instead...
another way would be not start them off on a protected page right off the bat and offer links to the the protected area...
in my opinion thats pretty odd to be starting them off on a protected page anyway
SLL maybe, but protected right from the time they hit the default page of the site.. thats just odd.. usually you want o say a little something about the site your at and then link people to protected areas or give them a login form which posts to a protected area.
Regardless if you always want users at your site under https:// you should have code on every single page in your site checking the url info at every page load. Then if someone ever hits a page and is not using the https:// you can do something about it like redirect them to the SSL home poge or redirect to that same page but with the https:// in the url..
I have a follow-up to this question.
Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?
I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.
I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.
The code is ok..
Your getting an error because no banners are showing up in that zones rotation.
run this directly in the browser and you will see that there are no banners being generated for that zone ID
As a matter of fact I dont see any banners showing up for any zones previous to 6 which tells me either you dont have valid banners in there or the application variable info got corrupted do to a server crash / power off or something.,
If you still cant see the upload buttons after checking the settings send me a PM with the info and I will take a look at your installation. It will have to be up on a live server of course.,
You really should check out the documentation regarding the config file before you go any farther.
If the server supports ASP.NET you do not have to spend any money to have real fast loading thumbnails.
Also, licenses of ASPImage only cost 69.95 and regardless any quality host supporting ASP should have one of the 3 supported resizing components installed or else you should consider a better host like www.alentus.com Places like that have good hosting prices and give you access to 3000.00 worth of 3rd party asp components.
Yesterday when I would access the get_me_in page with the password key, I was then taken to the default login page. It did not give me the option to create a user.
Today, when I entered the password key into the get_me_in page, I was taken right to the create user page. So, yes the problem has been resolved. I have no idea why though.
ALL FIXED.. tested with real paypal accounts and a live system
THIS FIX IS ONLY FOR PAYPAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
Download this file "ipn.asp" and put it in the "paypal_sub_signup" folder
Basically somehow an older version of the this file was in the original download archive.
I am VERY SORRY
Anyone who purchased ASPProtect 7 before March 11, 2005 should download this fix.cwilliams38421.7018055556, FYI. There is a typo in the upgrade (6.0 to 7.0) instructions. It specifies adding a field named "passwords". Should be "password".,
If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.
, You can not edit that code with dreamweaver. It will re-arrange the asp and kill it.
<table border="0" width="400" height="200" bgcolor="#000000">
<form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp">
<input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem">
<p align="center"><font face="Arial">ASPProtect Login</font></p>
<table border="0" bgcolor="#C0C0C0">
<td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Username</font></small></stro ng></td>
<td><input type="text" name="Username" size="10"></td>
<td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Password</font></small></stro ng></td>
<td><input type="Password" name="Password" size="10"></td>
<td bgcolor="#EBEBEB" colspan="2"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"><input type="checkbox" name="KEEPMESIGNEDIN" value="True">Keep
me signed in on this computer unless I log off.</font></td>
<p> <input type="submit" value="Login"></p>
If you want to change the look of the login html you have to edit the html by hand in a text editor.
Or create what you want on a blank page using your editor of choice and carefully use parts of that in the ASPProtect code.
In version 7 the login screen is one asp page by itself and is much easier to edit with just about any editor. In version 6 you have to know your html and be careful.
Either way I am not sure templates are a good idea for something like that. That sort of thing tends to cause problems with dynamic code that executes under different directory levels. You want to stick to regular html techniques. , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
While there is no option in the admin area / asp code we give you here is what I can tell you.
You have the source code and we also use an open database structure. (MSAccess or MSSQL) So that means you can really run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit.
In MSSQL you can run queries in SQL enterprise manager or query analyzer. Using Access you can run queries in query view.
It's really not that hard if you do some research on SQL Statements and how to use them. You can do some very powerful queries and save yourself a lot of time. ,
Thanks for your rapid responses, your support is excellent!
It may be best that I stick with html then. You mention that is stresses the Version 7 software, would the unlimited version perform any differently if I use multiple zones?
Also, if I do go with a single zone, would either program be able to make sure each banner is unique, or would there by duplicates for each page view?
Sorry to post so many questions in one day., Message :
I purchased the V8 of the software yesterday. It is running on a 2000 Server with a MSSQL database. It is installed and I get the successful connection to database screen but when I click to enter the admin. console I continually get:
"Connection string not saved in (data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.asp) file.
Most likey the data folder does not have proper permissions set on it.
That folder and all of the folders within it need (R,W,X,D) Permissions set for the anonymous webserver account.
These permissions can generally only be set by your hosting company."
I can save the string manually by hitting the button and I have checked that I have granted the proper access permissions. Any suggestions?
Ken, Then you should have current enough code.
If you PM me the encryption key you are using and the plain text password for this user I can see if I can reproduce the error and come up with a fix.
I believe you found one of the rare examples where the encryption creates a strange character that messes up things. Sometimes those characters are not even visable.
Changing the password should solve the problem in the meantime.,
The default database password is "temp"
This is noted in the docs. You can also see the current password by looking at your connection string.cwilliams38176.7913888889,
I know what is happening.. its the old single quote thing messing up the query string..
but it shouldnt be happening with the newer code as I fixed it.
If you like I can go in and reproduce/fix the issue. I can not think of any other way I can help you as other users have not reported the issue.
Chances are if it is happening in one situation it will happen again in the future.. it really all depends on the passwords being used and your encyrption key... other passwords may produce the issue even if the password is correct
basically once the password gets encrypted it by chance has a single quote in it... then it messes up the query
I take care of the situation by replacing the single quote with a double quote but it looks like you found a situation where that didn't work out
cwilliams38453.8921990741, I would like to have the ability to give a user 1 album with the default # of photos in it.
Is the best way to implement this to just add in an album creation
routine during the sigup/registration process and turn off the ability
to create a new album? Or is a user setting prebuilt into the
system for this?
, SQL Server Database Information Mod
This mod is only for customers running SQL server. It is a new stored procedure and a new version of the "server_info.asp" file that will display information about your SQL database on the Server Info page.
This is for Advanced SQL Users only that understand how to add a Stored Procedure to a SQL Database as well as assign permissions and what not.
To install this mod you should have access to SQL Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer as well as be able to grant your SQL database user EXEC permissions on the new stored procedure. ,
Here are three known bugs and their fixes...
If you have any of these symptoms these fixes will most likely take care of them.
If you don't have a symptom do not make any changes as you most likely have an updated copy of the application.
Technically if you bought that app on or after April 27th 2004 these bugs should all have been corrected.
(no descriptions showing in pop up window)
Edit pic_window.asp with a text editor
Set f=fs.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("pictures/Album_ID_" & Album_ID & ".txt"), 1)
Set f=fs.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("../pictures/Album_ID_" & Album_ID & ".txt"), 1)
(last image in slideshow it not showing)
<% For PicArrayIndex = 0 To Ubound(PicArray) - 1 %>
<% For PicArrayIndex = 0 To Ubound(PicArray) %>
Add To Favorites fix
(add to favorites feature doesn’t work at all)
Edit "album_uppermenu_inc.asp" in the scripts folder
<a href="users/favorite_albums.asp?Album_ID=<% =Album_ID %>"><img border="0" src="<% =application("skinpath") %>add_to_favorites.gif"></a>
<a href="users/favorite_albums.asp?Album_ID=<% =Album_ID %>&Action=Add_To_Favorites"><img border="0" src="<% =application("skinpath") %>add_to_favorites.gif"></a>cwilliams38104.7034375,
Have SQL 2000 backend...
We just moved from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003, used import data routine in SQL to move data.
Logged into admin area. When adding new user, no record is created. However, editing record works just fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated.,
See, and that's what I thought. What's interesting is that if I call either an aspx page or an asp page in the iframe tag, it asks me if I want to open the page, it doesn't display it. I'm using IE6 so there's not problem with the support for the tag.
I'll keep looking to find out what's going on. I think the iframe method might work best.
I assume you mean 500 pixels wide
no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component
so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process
humm, yea thats a data connection error..
really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.
that is low level
If using MSACCESS
I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)cwilliams38414.6528240741,
I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..
I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)
As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.
Sorry, I am looking at your code on view_item.asp and I have noticed that you are calling 3 variable; start_date, end_date, and image_url that do not exist in the databases that you provided. Do I have the updated package for ASPVendor?
Its not on their end. Using ASP alone you really won't be able to send more than around 300-400 individuals emails at a time before things will time out. Its just that ASP is not an efficient way of sending email and it never will be.,
You really should look into worldcast like I mentioned before.
Then just export the email list from the database into worldcast and send out the newsletters.
You will get much better results and perfect newsletters and it really only takes a little bit longer to do each time once you figure it out. That is how I send out my PowerASP and CJWSoft newsletters and it works perfectly every time.
I am having difficulty properly securing pdf's using 7.x
I used the example file and have been able to secure images and word
docs, but the pdf's give users the error "There was an error opening
this document. The file cannot be found."
The kicker -- it works fine on my computer, just not anyone else's. I
put a link up to the same file without any security and that works on
everyone's computer. The word file links and redirects work too. I've
tried my log-in on other computers, then attempting to download the pdf
and that doesn't work.
The client wants a site where users must register before downloading
pdf's. They should be able to view all the pages without registering.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But I can't complete the site until this issue is resolved.
, When using the paypal subscription feature with ASPProtect for a new user the expiration in ASPProtect is actually not used. It is set to Null. This is because the PayPal system takes care of everything on their end.
So I can't see this happening because that field is not supposed to be used and the default PayPal subscription code we provide with the system does not populate that field.
Unless you populated the expiration date field on your own ?
Now that I re-read your post. The ASPProtect 6 reference was confusing me.
Now, if you have users that were never on a PayPal subscription that then sign up via PayPal subscriptiion that may indeed be a different story.
Is that what you are saying? I am looking at the code right now and it seems to me like it sets the expration date field to null on any new subscription activity regardless.
Let's forget about ASPProtect 6 as I don't think that matters. Please explain exactly when this happens and does not happen and exactly what sort of user we are talking and what their expiration dates are set at before they sign up for a paypal subscription.
Please be as detailed as possible so I really know what is going on ?, I just started using ASPJpeg, and i used the
"generate_new_thumbnails.asp" to create new thumbs of all of the
existing albums. It generates the thumbs just fine, but they
don't get picked up by the "Randomly Selected Photo" section. If
I upload new pics, they will show up in the random photo area.
So, it reads the new upload thumbs, but not the newly generated ones using your .asp page.
Is there anything I can do?
It turns out that I never enabled ASP.net on the site. After doing that the skins work much better. I'll have to poke around and see what other functionality is now available.
ASPProtect protects ".asp" pages only.,
That is your problem.
In addition to that I just noticed the </href> you have in there.. man that is some scary stuff you came up with.. that may appear to work and make a link but it is not correct. Each link will work but never truly be closed.
That is just not valid proper use of the anchor tag.
You make a link in html like so
<a href = "somepage.htm">somepage.htm</a>, Thank you!!
Then your surrounding each link with <span lang="en-us"> </span>
Not sure why ?
