Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 1:40:34 PM
This relates to a part of the new documentation that wasn't ready yet.
I just made a thread about it though.
Here you go.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ;PN=1&TPN=1 cwilliams38419.5353587963,
Thank you.... yes it does
Is there a limit in the number of Zones you can have in the database.
Makes sense to me. I used the ASPProtect_access2002.mdb supplied.
(I am using 2003). Only added more names and other personal info
to it for test. Uploaded the amended db with FTP. This did not
restrict someone not listed in db from logging in.
Would each individuals' information need to be added to the code in
order to have it check the database first to find out if the person is
authorized to view?
Part of the problem is I dont know which ASP page or script links the
db to the rest of the web, or how one page relates or links to the
Sometimes I wonder if problems I encounter originate with the server.
Thanks for patience.
Installed latest verison Doesn't seem to have corrected problem. Still with same message. I wonder if deleting this user and putting him back in might help. I have not however tried any other user names and passwords. ,
1st off.. you appear to have some strange things going on with that domain. Looks like you have a frameset and are loading another domain in it which is always confuding especially if you are running the site off your home computer or something... I am not sure
If I go to
and click on the "familiy" category
then right click on a broken image.. look at properties
Your linking the image to your localhost
and that is wrong, just like I said above
Nobody running the site off any computer but your development machine is going to see those pictures because the url isnt valid for them
My guess is in the settings you have the "PictureURL" set to
when it should be
Good luck with this.. I am going to the bar.
If you need more help I probably will not be available until Monday.
If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.cwilliams38312.5189814815, If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , no the "expected path" is something that gets generated for you if you have parent paths enabled. to help you fill things in correctly...
basically if parent paths are enabled it shows you what the path should be for each path field on the settings page... if parent paths are disabled there will be nothing to the right of expected path for technical reasons (lack of being able to do a "../../" to figure out the paths more or less)
in that case there is a file called "expected_paths" in the data folder that you can run to tell you the expected path info
, Those access levels are not used and are nothing to worry about. They are left over from the ASPProtect core which I used for the users area of ASPBanner.
I am not sure what you did but its not a none, Unless I know more I can not make any guesses what happened. I would make sure in the database that the user is active and the expiration date field for them if there is one is empty,
Well, that is why we added the PayPal subscription pack where all of that is taken care of and customers get put under a recurring billing cycle.,
The more people you get to pay that way the less you have to do.
We also have routines for the two other supported payment methods so people can look up their account and add time to it whether it is active/expired or not.
Other than that, yes it is something you need to sort out on your own based on how you want to run your system. You have the source code and the sky is the limit on how you want handle all of that. You send out an email to users about to expire. Whether they come back to the site/look up their account and add more time to it is up to them. I really just do not see any way ASPProtect could handle that whole process automatically.
As for batch changing to users in the database. We give you the source code and we also use an open database structure. You can run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database using the tools that come with it, You can write any code you like to do whatever you like to the database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit like I said. I also don't really see how batch changes to the database relates to individual users paying again for access or not especially since we include payment pages were a users can look up their accounts and pay for and add more time to it automatically ? At least not regarding the payment routine we provide support for.
ASPProtect can not handle everything every person would need to do. It is meant as a solid starting point for any project, but there are going to be times when more functionality will need to be added by the customer based on their specific needs.
The random password is generated during signup and the function that creates it is located on this page of code.
it looks like this
Function RndStr(Length, UseChrs)
If IsNull(UseChrs) OR (UseChrs = "") Then UseChrs = "0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!@#$%^&*()_+=-"
NewStr = ""
For gpIndex = 1 To Length
NewStr = NewStr & Mid(UseChrs, Int((Len(UseChrs)) * Rnd + 1), 1)
RndStr = NewStr
For example go to this page and hit refresh and watch the password change.
Yes, sometimes if you hit refresh quickly over and over you'll get the same password, but not generally. Also that is not something that would happen normally as a user isnt going to sit at that screen and hit refresh over and over.
Anyway... when signing up the new user of course has the option to change that password to something they would like better...
As far as... "selecting the same user name and password every time"
I need more information. That does not make sense for a lot of reasons.
Most importantly because usernames are not generated. The are inputed by the user during signup. They are then checked to ensure they do not already exist before the user is allowed to complete their signup.
So under normal circumstances there can never be duplicate usernames in the system or even users with duplicate emails as that is checked as well.
Now of course if you edited the code in any way it is possible all this is not working correctly ?
False alarm. Dumb user alert (both the classifieds customer and me).
When I test fixes, I need to be looking at the right Ad_ID to get correct results ,
I am having severe trouble with the SQL database connection for ASPlisting (generic version).
I have used all of the suggested connection strings but still get error messages such as:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Specified SQL server not found.
I have set up the tables in the database, although the database existed already with many other tables in it as it costs me per database per month so one has to suffice with many tables in it.
I use SQL a fair amount on my site but have not suffered any probs like this yet.
Any advise or help would be useful.,
I am using cdont to send email. what do i have to do send email to other display my full name instead of email address. In other word I want to see first name last name in their email client instead of email address.
thanks for your help
I tried changing using Notepad in the config_inc.asp
If Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "" Then
Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_SOFTWARE")
Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "iis/6"
and the albums still do not show up under the categories
, >>1. What is telling paypal to return the info to the ipn.asp page for
processing? Is that something I have to set up in my paypal
Nevermind on this question. I found the notify_url variable. :-\
The articles you references were read over by me like 3 hours ago... way passed that and prob. in deeper sh*t than i was since im trying everything possible without knowing the true reason this is not working.,
Actually, I think I just found my answer...
I will take out the StrToFix = Replace(StrToFix," "," ") bit of code and see what happens...
Okay, hopefully I'm posting in the correct area this time.
Currently we are utilizing ASPProtect 7.x
When using the Newsletter function, many members are indicating they are not receiving email. No evidence of email in SPAM folders. Also, when checking with email provider, they insist it is not being filtered prior to delivery to member's email address.
The following message does appear when a newsletter is sent.
/newsite/ASPprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 124
Line 124 is the line of code to 'send' the emails. We have approx. 860 members who are on the list to receive the newsletter emails. I have no way of knowing how many are not getting the email. Based on anecdotal evidence, I'm guessing it could be as high as 20%.
We are using CDOSYS / SMTP authentication with a real external email with MX records. Our website is hosted by Cbeyond. They insist it isn't at their end. (for what it's worth)
Thanks for your assistance.
I've tried almost anything here... I'm using an online SQL SERVER database with ASPProtect 7, and I can't login after my initial creation of the admin account.
It works fine with Access... I believe I have checked all the fields created by the sql statement (which was run with no errors),
What could be the problem here? could it be a problem that I run my local IIS against the online sql server?
Morten, I really need more detailed information to say anything about it.
I would try different methods of calling banners as well to see if that helps.,
Ok nevermind that... i got by that wasn't paying attention...
The problem is even before this which i didn't know until now.
I placed the protect tag in a page i called members.aspx
When i go to this page is says ACCESS DENIED etc etc etc.
When i go to login to view this page i get the error..which i DIDNT know because i assumed it was working. This is the error im getting:
Server Error in '/MAP' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /map/users/aspprotectlogin.aspx
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42
btw it says /map because that is the subfolder within the root folder, That is actually normal and supposed to be like that.
You have the current version.
ASPVendor is a VERY simple application meant to work with PayPal shopping cart that runs on their server. It is based off the ASPClassifieds core code. There is only one version and highly doubt there will ever be another., I'm in the process of incorporating the ASP Gallery functionality within my current site design.
To begin this process I'm taking each page and I'm wrapping the ASP
Gallery code with my site design [essentially I'm allocating this
application the center of the page]. When I pull in the
default.asp into the site the contents of this page make the entire
page too wide. I can't see where ASP Gallery assigns itself a
I'm working on this as a side project so I'm not terribly far along
since I need to change all of the font assignments within the system to
style assignments and it's a slow go.
Any insight would be a great help, there's a lot of re-write in what I'm doing and i don't want to affect functionality.
if you want to see the page and what happens -- http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp
Don't go to www.iphotosite.com because I havent moved it to its own location yet.
, Has this been resolved ?,
import/export feature WARNING !!
I just want to warn everyone that the built in import/export feature can be a little dangerous.
The reason being is when you import users they get new "Users_ID"s in the database.
The "User_ID" field is an autonumber field and that is why and there is nothing you can do about it.
So, if you are using a user's current "User_ID" to keep track up something important NEVER export the users and re-import them. Because their "User_ID" will change and you will be in trouble.
The PayPal signup features of ASPProtect actually use the "User_ID" like this and that is the main reason this warning is here.
now, that being said
If you are importing new users into ASPProtect
simply exporting existing users to another system
then this is nothing to worry about.cwilliams38425.0597685185,
Basically, the moral of this story is dont think of the built in Import/Export feature as backup system because it is not. It is not a substistute for backing up your database.
It is a just a tool that can come in handy for various things.
Suprising I started this tread off on ASPImage, but I resolved my issue and forgot to change the thread topic. I will try your suggestion.
If you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before August/10/2004 this file needs to be updated.
Copy this file into your ASPBanner folder over the existing file of the same name.
Also, I found this page which specifically talks about hidden IPN form values to change currencies
||For payment IPNs, this is the currency of the payment. For non-payment subscription IPNs, this is the currency of the subscription.|
||The currency of the payment is U.S. Dollars.|
||The currency of the payment is Canadian Dollars.|
||The currency of the payment is Pounds Sterling.|
||The currency of the payment is Euros.|
||The currency of the payment is Yen.|
AUGUST 12th 2004
NEW VERSION OF ASPBANNER IS BEING RELEASED THIS WEEK
ASPBanner Unlimited Version 8.0
It is completely finished.
This new version has more features and is selling for $99.95
Unlimited Version 7.3 is now named "ASPBanner Standard"
Owner's of Unlimited Version 7.3 can get an upgrade to Unlimited Version 8 for the difference in price (based on current pricing)
It is available now for purchase at the following link .
The new version can use your existing database so it is a fairly easy upgrade.
If you are not an existing ASPBanner Customer you can use the following link to purchase the application normally.
Notes on the new version:
ASPBanner Unlimited Version 8
Improved graphics and some new icons
New reports screen... 4 reports total 3 of which are new
New Iframe Banner Calling method with built in auto refresh feature so banners can rotate at a specified interval on their own
New Zone Order Informaion Page
Visually shows you what the current rotation looks like for a zone
Banners can now be stopped at a certain date and at an impression limit
Whichever is hit 1st.. before it was just one or the other
New "data" folder... this new directory is the only directory that needs permissions
this should make setting up the system and permissions a breeze.. all cjwsoft applications will
eventually use this same folder
New configuration text file... eliminates config table in the database and allows us to easily
add more config options in the future without changing the database.. means easier upgrades down the road
and faster loading of the configuration data
New application data connection wizard
makes setting up the data connection a no brainer
more overall emailing methods supported
QuickSoft EasyMail Objects
Persists ASPEMail now supports outgoing SMTP authentication.
Simple Mail now supports outgoing SMTP authentication.
It is becoming popular for ISP to use this.
Emailing code now uses functions so we can easily add more email component support down the road
Flash files (.swf) can now be previewed and used in new banner right from the upload page
before this could only be done with image files
Users page now has a notes popup feature
when you hold the mouse over the icon you see all info on a user without needing to edit that user
Edit banner page now shows the color of the banner status in the dropdown menu
New clone banner feature.. allows you to easily create similar banners
Banner application page has been optimized to be even more efficient
Ton of misc little things & Improvements...
I edited the RC4 function in the "config_inc.asp" file like I mentioned
so the function now looks like this which just acts as a passthrough and really does nothing
Function RC4(ByRef pStrMessage, ByRef pCookieEncryptionKey)
RC4 = pStrMessage
so it is all set, go try things out and lets see if anything else weird comes up
Password "abcdefghij" ,
Disallowed Parent Path
The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.
This is what the settings screen looks like on an XP Machine
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default.
It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.
The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps.cwilliams38391.6033101852,
And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root
<!--#include virtual = /somefile.asp"-->
But if the application or code was installed in a directory called "somedirectory" the virtual include directive would need to look like this
<!--#include virtual = "/somedirectory/somefile.asp"-->
Until I have time to make one I suggest using the one on the banmanpro support site as it is pretty nice.
Just dont use option 2 on that page as that is specific to banmanpro
Can you set an expiration date on a subscription?
Can I have the logon be in a top frame while having the protected pages displayed in a main frame?
Using frames with forms based authentication is not the best thing to be doing. Your much better off not using frames and using includes files to do a virtual frames sort of thing (search google) but if you are going to use frames I would suggest password protecting the frameset page as well as any pages it contains.
If you want to have a login form in a non protected top frame all the time.. that posts to a lower frame that is password protected.. you would do this
but change the target of the form to one of your frames
personally though I think that would be a somewhat goofy setup to have going on
Also, how will it behave if a user moves in between a protected page to a public page and back to the protected page again?
As long as they have cookies enabled which is required for session variables to work... then you will have no issues because once they come back to a page they have permission to they will just be allowed in without login.. at least while that session is still active.. or for a longer time if they choose the remeber me option which keeps track of them with a cookie .
Really, the best thing to do is expirment and see how things behave.
ASPProtect protects ".asp" pages only., I have run into the same problem with streaming pdfs to the browser
using the stream_download.asp example, but only when selecting the
option to open the file directly into the browser (after it's streamed
back) as opposed to saving it and then opening it (which works fine in
Firefox and IE). Then I ran across this Microsoft support article
That is your problem.
It got me thinking that maybe a header needs to be included in
stream_download.asp that tells the browser to specifically cache the
file. Adding this suddenly got everything working
Response.CacheControl = "Public"
right after this line in the code
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
My asp is limited, but this seems to work at least for pdf
documents. Can someone confirm this? The other question I
have is if this is a solution, should the CacheControl be set to public
or private. Not sure on what the implications are.
Firefox by the way seems to open or save and open the file without
this, so you are right that the implementation between the browsers is
I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.
Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.
Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.
Any suggestions, comments?
