New Version 8.1 Released
Upgrade at your own risk. Though we try new versions are not always perfect due to minor bugs we may miss.
Back up your old setup so you can revert back if necessary..!!!
Save your data connection string info in a text file so you have it.
You can get that by viewing the system info page in the admin area.
Carefully copy all the ".asp" files from the new version to the old.
Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner folder.
Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner/scripts folder
Copy the aspbanner/images folder because there are some new images
Be sure to also copy the "data/config" folder files.folders as well as a lot of that is new including the actual config file. If you dont get the new config file copied in there you will have problems later on with some of the new features.
Be sure to create a new folder in the "data" folder called "tempstats"
Make sure it has proper permissions if you plan on using the delayed stats feature as the stats gets temporarily stored there.
Go back to the area where you originally setup the data connection and do that again...
From the web browser run the following URL
Replace "yoursite" with the proper url info relevant to your web site location.
When run via the web server that page will ask for a password. By default it is "temp". You should change it later on for security reasons. That page tells you how.
Now... moving on..
There were no changes to the database except for SQL Server users so you can use your existing database.
SQL Server users that want to use the new stored procedures feature (it's optional) will need to update their SQL database with the stored procedures.
Scripts to do that are provided.cwilliams38291.7372800926,
ALSO: I have been running this new version using SQL Server Stored Procedure mode for a 1 week on a special banner server that serves banners to many of my own sites. I have also been using the new Delayed Stats feature.
All I can say is it is running like a champ and the SQL server is using less memory than it ever did before.
Long time no talk, which is a good thing. I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor. I am running into an issues.
When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it. Screen shot attached.
Yes I'm using the Option Pack.
-Ricardo, thats actually just the xml parser component barfing out on you.. it can't handle the load of being called so much on that server
you might want to try some of the other methods of calling banners,
If you would like me to, I also have no problem going into your machine real quick via remote access and setting permissions / putting the right connecting string in there for you.
I need to go in as an administator though to set the permissions.
edited due to inappropriate content,
I cleaned up the code as you suggested, and I still can't get the images to display without the whitespace around it.
How do I download the ASP version? I'll give it a try.
Thanks for your help,,
perhaps the filesystem object is disabled on the server ?,
or some sort of script blocking is running and causing a problem ?
other than that I can take a look if you put it up on a live server.
1033 which is English - United States
mm/dd/yyyy date format
2057 which is English - United Kingdom
dd/mm/yyyy date format
Many servers are set to run the default LCID which is 2048 so the banner system will not show the date pickers.
This setting can however be easily overwritten when using the ASPBanner system.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.
Add this code between the <% and %> tags.
Near the top is good
Session.LCID = 1033
Session.LCID = 2057
depending on what date format you are looking to usecwilliams38325.7403125, Actually, as far the "aspprotectnet.dll" file goes it makes sense because of the following.
Save the file and go edit a banner. The date pickers should be there now.
The "aspprotectlicense.dll" is something we do not provide the source code for. We also do not compile it in "debug" mode because you not want dll's running in "debug" mode in a production environment and we also do not want that dll in debug mode because of reverse engineering reasons.
Now, that being said that DLL is no different than any other 3rd party dll "so to speak" that you would use in a project. Many of which will not be in debug mode and you will also not have the source for.
"Microsoft.Data.Odbc.dll" being an example
Regardless, there must be a way to do what your trying to do. I am just not sure at the moment. It is nothing anyone has brought up before and I personally have never had any issues like that when I work on the application so I am just not sure.
It probably has something to do with the way you set up your project.,
Rather than bill customers through my PayPal account in $$$ can I get ASPProtect to send through the amount to PayPal in £ (pounds sterling)?
I am using PayPal (non-subscription) [paypal_signup]
IE and firefox do some things differently.
It could very well have to do with MIME types set on the server for your website. pdf probably isnt set as a mime type which can cause issues with file streaming situations.
Mime types are either set in the IIS console for your web site under the http headers tab or you can try setting the content-type header to 'application/pdf' right on the asp page the does the streaming
see this article which shows how to do that
'Specify a MIME type such as "text/html", "image/gif" or "application/pdf"
Response.contenttype = "application/pdf"
'Useful in cases for unknown file types
You would want to put the code that sets the contentype as close to the top of the asp page doing the streaming as possible., [QUOTE=cwilliams]
It should be released sometime late May 2004 or early June 2004 but no gurantees as I am pretty busy right now with some projects.
There will be upgrade instructions and it should be a fairly easy upgrade.
Like I said no guarantee... I have a lot of things going on... it might not even be finished till the end of July... customers will always be able to get it for the difference in pricecwilliams38167.6469328704, With ASPVendor you must use the SQL scripts we provide with the SQL Version to create the SQL database or else fields will not get set correctly.
You have the version listed on the site when you purchassed it.
I wish you would have told me you were using SQL server. It's important details like that that allow me to help and troubleshoot. , YAY FOR ASPPROTECT 7!!!
Now I need to know... how can I automate PayPal subscriptions and purchases? I'd like it so that once PayPal gets its money, my accounts get marked active.
Now, the documentation on this site currently says, to point the IPN post action to a null page. Yet, I see an IPN.asp in my files for PayPal subs and PayPal purchases... Looking over the code there, I see actions to make accounts active and stuff like that. Is the page ready for prime time, or should I hold off for a new version?
question 2 is answered best here
I should also mention that the paypal scenarios used in ASPProtect can not be tested using PayPal's sandbox. Also test using two real PayPal accounts and on a live setup. (You'll allowed two paypal accounts)
then you can log into the other and refund the transctions and of course it makes sense to use low amount like 1 cent and what not.
Also, I'd love to see what you came up with with the integration. I have been working on it here as well and took it in a different direction as I plan to sell directions for it as an add-on for aspprotect. I have it all working here but so far I dont see an easy way to let other people do it as I had to change things in both systems in a lot of places. Utimately if done under a SQL environment triggers should be used at the database level and that is another consideration.
, Will do!
, If by permissions ou are reffering to the IUSR with write/execute
permissions, they are already set. I get this error when I hit the 'Create New
Export File From Current User Database' link:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a004c'
Path not found
/ASPProtect/password_admin/export.asp, line 76
Any other suggestions?, Just installed sofware everything works fine except I see no way to upload any photos. There is no reference or link to allow an upload on any of the asp pages (I have surfed them all). I am sure it is something simple, but I am not aware. I am using SQL2000.,
I am getting the same error looking at the previous post, I looked in settings and my Registration-URL is pointing at the correct location.
Is there any other thoughts on this issue
That is by design, removing and deleting are two different things as far as the classifieds system goes.
A regular user can only remove an ad from the category index. (which makes the ad inactive),
An admin however can truly delete an ad from the system.
I did all that you sugessted and all failed, you said "I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables. is this somthing I can change manually? below are the steps I performed......
1 - made sure the web is it's own application in IIS
2 - Reset IIS in command promt
3 - Restarted the server, the only thing is I have not waited perhaps long enough for it to kick in. but it should have with the restart.
I am running windows 2003 on the front end with wondows 2003 and Exchange 2003 on the back end, is there anything else that may be causing this issure?
Well, thats not normal.
(it should work just like our online demo does)
Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?
Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method.,
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm, Just checked XML Parsing with your file. Got a clean bill of health on that: It's working.
Got the right code for the location of the ipn.asp in my paypal1.asp, from http:// all the way to .asp.
I think since everything is set up properly from the looks of things,
I'll wait and see. If I get another one who flubs things, then I'll
start the testing of the account. But if it goes through just fine,
then maybe the Internet just hiccoughed on the first guy... thanks
ok, that probably means the physical path you have set for the logfile directory (in the admin settings area) is not correc t
the error pretty much means just what it says
Sorry, there is no option for that.
I'll take it into consideration, but the way the banner rotation logic works would make adding such an option very complicated.
Just give it an expiration date way into the future if you do not want an ad to expire anytime soon.
I usually just make all my ads expire in like 2020 or something like that since I don't want them to stop running either on some of my sites.cwilliams38247.1116319444,
As I already had directories in my web site root called 'images' and 'templates' I loaded the files into a sub directory called 'aspprotect' as suggested in the installation guide where it say 'either way it really doesn't matter'.
However, it does.
The scripts are often looking for a file which it can't find because the /aspprotect part of the path is missing. Example:
I can't find a way of editing all the scripts that need changing. I'm assuming it would be easier to change my site to avoid using subdirectories used by aspprotect and reinstalling from scratch straight into the root directory.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Ian, I just started using ASPJpeg, and i used the
"generate_new_thumbnails.asp" to create new thumbs of all of the
existing albums. It generates the thumbs just fine, but they
don't get picked up by the "Randomly Selected Photo" section. If
I upload new pics, they will show up in the random photo area.
So, it reads the new upload thumbs, but not the newly generated ones using your .asp page.
Is there anything I can do?
, We have no add-ons for anything but accepting payments through paypal and 2checkout... if you want to accept payments through some other setup you have make a payment directory addon and write code to do it based on the system you are using..
We provide the ASP source code so that is doable for someone that is good with ASP. If not then it won't be doable.
I checked the option pack code as well and it looks correct.
I tested it and it acted as it should.
You can see it in active at the live demo
go the the admin area.. you will notice 3 users with level 4 access
1 of them is inactive
then go to the mass email area and pick active and level 4
it will say it is sending email to 2 users which is correct
then go to mass email again and pick level 4 and inactive
it will say it is sending email to 1 user which is correct
choose any status and access level 4 and it will send email to 3 users which is correct
When you do this please realize you can not choose a group as well.cwilliams38104.690787037, Actually it is my own server (retired email server from my employer). I will check out the documentation again. I DID read that part, but didn't understand it enough. I'll dig deeper. Also my box has 2 CPU's, hence the $125 for ASPImage...,
That will cause a problem because you can not choose a group and an access level at the same time.
Anyway... perhaps you can private message or use the contact us form and and let me take a look at your system. Since I can't reproduce the behavior that is the only way we might figure this out.
in that file "upload_post.asp"
If Session("Admin") <> "True"
If Session("Admin") <> "True" Then
sure and thats probably what you should do... that pure asp upload thing must not be able to handle the size of your import file... another thing which can very .. also some versions of IIS require registry changes to upload bigger files via asp code alone, Humm, its hard to explain but I am not sure that is a good way to be testing that. I hear what you are saying but I am not sure that really means anything. Whatever is going on its some sort of client side issue with the browser and the meta refreshing over a very long period of time during which there really is no user doing anything at the site. , I use the group feature and would like to know if it is possible to change or delete members from a group in bulk. For example if I have 200 users registered for group 1 and 3 how could I delete all members from group 3 in one pass rather than editing 200 individual members?,
If anyone is interested in what the Mod function actually does this article explains it nicely. They even use it for the same purpose in the examples.
yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...
and like in the "example" protected pages we provide
or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes
I guess I just didnt understand what you were talking about
I pull that crap on myself once and a while... or my
favorite is leaving a bootable CD in the drive and then wondering why the heck
the OS doesnít come back up. I pretty much promised myself back in 2002 that I
would never mess with anything minor after 10PM. For whatever reason I always
start messing around trying to "fix" something and end up sorry...
Granted if itís an emergency I am all for it, but I get dresses in advance
anticipating the practically inevitable drive down to the datacenter.
Good luck with that, I am sure you will be much better off
in the long run.
, Chris, and all who read this post.
Don't run away!
I believe that perhaps I gave Chris good cause for this post to be created. But dont fear.
When it comes to most languages I am a newbie, let alone ASP.NET. I did not choose to have an application for my site to be built in ASP.NET. However it was and I had paid for that program and it needed protecting!
Now I did have a few problems, however NONE were with ASPProtect.NET. It is brilliant. NONE were with Chris and the support he provides. I believe he must work 24/7 judging by the speed of replies and the timezone differences.
In the end all the problems were down to MY typos and a web host who insisted that any problem was a conflict and not their server set-up.(which it was!)
Having eliminated the typo and changed web provider to a less arrogant company. ASPProtect.NET installed and ran out of the box. Truely impressive.
As a newbie it is not something I would like to do again. But with help from Chris and from a friend with ASP.NET knowledge any issues were very quickly resolved.
An A+ recommendation for CJWSoft. I love it!
