Trying to make sense of this. I am still confused. In the file config_inc.asp. I found the setting for "uploaddirectory". That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")]. I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.
The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed. they are set to the way it was delivered. Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes?,
yes. what you are talking about has to do with norton ad blocking software.. it blocks images or paths that have the word "ad" in them.. and you see red x's where images should be on web sites.. usually
it is different then what this thread initially mentions which has to do with a code/server issue with the application variables.,
I can no longer send e-mails to my configured accounts through aspbanner. It was working for over a year and now it stopped.
At one point I was using CDONTS_Installed but since I moved to a new Windows 2003 server I was told by my ISP that either one of these will work
but neither one works. Can some one assist?
This isn't going to help you much but here is the deal., I believe that solved the problem as I have not heard from this person since I sent him the code.,
The 2checkout support in ASPProtect actually is not supposed to work with 2checkout subscriptions and therefore does not need to use an item number.
It is intended to be used for single payments only with 2checkout as explained in this thread.
Single payments with 2checkout use their shopping cart which allows for dynamic payments without needing an item number.
I agree with you that 2checkout's interface is confusing. It's actually about the worst system I have ever seen. I could not make a 2Checkout subscription system because their system is just too limited and I couldn't make it work the way it really needed to.
ok... glad ya figured it out.
Yes.. for ASP server side code to run the page extension must be ".asp". I was gonna mention that but I guess I just didnt think anyone would do that.
no offense.. not everyone works with this stuff every day.., I have been told it does as I got about 5 people or so who upgraded but I have not used SQL 2005 yet. I'll order a copy.,
Please forgive any ignorance on my part.
Using the live demo, it seems that with the banner software my advertisers would only have access to reports, but no ability to upload banners, specify keyword triggers or zones, what have you. Is this correct?
The other thing I couldn't quite figure out, assuming I had a categorized directory on my site, is this system configurable to display different banners based on category? Perhaps through keyword triggers?
Thank you in advance for any assistance.,
I really need more information.
Connection strings being used ?
How have permissions for the database folder been set ?
etc etc the more specific the better
You also may want to download ASPTest from our main site and see if you can get that running.
I would suspect your problem relates to the databases having a password set on them. Probably the ones you connected to didn't. It complicates setting up a connection correctly (especially a dsn) but there is a good reason for it as it adds a little extra security.
And of course my detailed article on the error.
, Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source. It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. , I checked the SQL table and had 1 banner with no zone ID. I added it in
directly through the SQL interface and now it seems to be ok.,
I checked the option pack code as well and it looks correct.
I tested it and it acted as it should.
You can see it in active at the live demo
go the the admin area.. you will notice 3 users with level 4 access
1 of them is inactive
then go to the mass email area and pick active and level 4
it will say it is sending email to 2 users which is correct
then go to mass email again and pick level 4 and inactive
it will say it is sending email to 1 user which is correct
choose any status and access level 4 and it will send email to 3 users which is correct
When you do this please realize you can not choose a group as well.cwilliams38104.690787037,
That will cause a problem because you can not choose a group and an access level at the same time.
Anyway... perhaps you can private message or use the contact us form and and let me take a look at your system. Since I can't reproduce the behavior that is the only way we might figure this out.
No luck...this is the message
Return To Import / Export Screen.
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools. ,
Thanks for the quick reply!
I was thinking it was an ASP config/install issue.
I usually deal with Linux/PHP, so this is all new to me :),
After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Yea.. that error is totally because the asp pages are looking for fields in the database that are not there.. and causing a nasty loop.
if using the option pack you must go over the directions very carefully...cwilliams38300.5555671296, nice idea. id be interested to see your modifications for ideas,
Make sure everything works step by step..
After upgrading to option pack code you either need to upgrade the database from the base system or use the newer database provided with the option pack.
Then.. you want to test every function of the groups.. if pages act slow and seem odd... especially the groups page and edit users page..
Then your not using a valid database. Either you didnt upgrade the old one, are not using the new one, or your connecting to an older verison by accident and not realizing it.
That's pretty much it...
How can i get to this to register someone in the database only after the Paypal payment has been accepted. I was testing it out to see if it makes it to my Paypal account (which it did just fine) then I closed Paypal before paying. I logged in as the administrator and looked at the member list and the account was created anyway. How can I stop this from being created until "only" after the Paypal payment has been "approved"?
What if this person never comes back to "try again"? Now the username he used (and is inactive) is not available for anyone else to use. And it takes up database space.
I am using the Paypal (non-subscription)
Thanks in advance,,
The stat not show when impression over xxxxxx
I use aspbanner v8.1 MS SQL version
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0006'
/aspbanner/stats_window_admin.asp, line 257
, I will give you permission to move it since you asked., I really need more detailed information to say anything about it.
I would try different methods of calling banners as well to see if that helps., No, because ASPProtect.NET is licensed per and only runs in One website (one iis application)
That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server.,
Here is what I have in settings.

I do not even see ASPUpload listed but when I run the test_asp_components.asp from the extras/more_component_info folder, it shows that it is installed.
I have a need for more than the current number of custom fields currently available in the registration form. Is there a documented method of adding additional fields or am I not able to do so?
ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting a file download.
This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.
(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)
Here is how it works...
Basically we protect the file download by only allowing a logged in user to download it. The special ".asp" page we use the stream the file is password protected. It also hides the true location of the file so you can keep your files out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the html source they can not tell where the file really came from and they can only download if they are logged in and you offered them the link to the file.
For the file download protection examples to work you may need to edit some values
in the stream_download.asp file that are valid for your setup.
Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.
Now, you also need to call a valid "download file name" from the download_link.asp file which is an example of how make a download link to the streamed download.
Lastly, we provide a working example. Now, you obviously may need to customize it to fit your needs. Please realize you are going to have to make special download links in your .asp pages and not only should you only show those links to people with appropriate access to download the files, but you should also protect the streaming download page accordingly as well as far as level, groups, and particular users. What I am saying is which files a particular user is allowed to download is not automatically handled by ASPProtect in any way. We give you all the tools to provide protected downloads to logged in users, but if you have complex needs you’re probably going to need to come up with a system that works for you. It's not really difficult because we did all the complicated stuff, but its something you have to sort out.,
Perhaps someday in the future ASPProtect will have an interface to upload files and associate them with certain users. But at the moment it does not.
When someone edits their personal information, such as address, is there any way to set it so that someone in the office can receive an e-mail noting the changes?
If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things
- invalid physical path specified
- filesystem object is disabled on the server
that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure
you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs,
RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing
It is very possible (just basic ASP and database accessing techniques)
It is just not the sort of thing I support in the forums as it is a customization related.
Even for me something like that would take 1-3 hours of coding time. Basically, it is just not something I could just explain to you real quick.
You might want to pick up a good book on ASP or check out some of the great resources out there. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=17
Doing stuff like this is relatively easy, but can be time consuming work.
In the future please use a more descriptive topic for yours posts "I need help" is not exactly helpful to anyone else searching through the forums . I therefore renamed your post accordingly.
I really try to keep the forums organized and clean. That's all.
any asp code that accesses an access database, writes to text files, or allows for picture uploading will need permissions set on certain directories,
every application out there is going to need permissions set at some point
its just a fact.. and if your hosting company does not give you a way to manage permissions or have it done when you ask they do not know what they are doing and they are not supporting your asp hosting needs
see my article for more info on the whole process
the part newar the bottom talks about hosting companies
Password Retrieval System
I'm trying to setup the email functionality and have the following settings:
Email_Component : CDOSYS (Using Remote Server)
Mail Remote Server: the smtp server in my Outlook account
Use SMTP Authentication: Checked
SMTPUsername: the email address in my Outlook account
SMTPPassword: the password in my Outlook account
Email Notification: email@example.com
But I get this when I send the request for via missing password info.
CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'
The transport failed to connect to the server.
/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174
This is running on Windows 2000 server.
I would kile to see more support for the groups function:
1. on the password_admin/default.asp page have a coulmn listing groups
2. ability to change groups in bulk eg change the expiry date for all group x members
I am using the upload_post_VBSCRIPT.asp to upload the pictures. My concern is the security of this. For instance I've seen some sites get hacked by a user uploading a file (going through the same process) and ending up crashing the entire server.
I tried adding .jpeg to the end of a text file (filename.vbs.jpeg) and then uploading it, and the file was actually uploaded. Is this a potential problem?
upgrade pricing is here
what is different
the changes to make it work with MySQL were vast to say the least
more on that from an old thread
just please remember use of MySQL is just not supported,
I can assure you it works well as I have people using it
thx for posting this..
Just a few notes... more than 100 pictures specified in the config file is not supported. You are of course on your own if you specify more than 100
Also, technically the post above should say more than 102 pictures... "I think" as you wont need more html cell code until then..
The loop in the code is probably how I should have done it in the 1st place but I was in a hurry to get this finished and I also never expected/wanted anyone to specify more than 100 pics per album.
Lastly.. depending on what style you are using in the config file the code above may not work as some of the styles do not use cells but line breaks instead.. At least from what I remember.cwilliams38306.7506481481,
ok, here is what is going on
you are password protecting an ".asp" page that requires querystring info to run correctly (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3""),
that is something I never intended anyone to do.. while it does handle and repass the querystring info along during successful login it does not re-pass that info during a failed login as you have found out
this is all by design.. the only reason the system re-passes the querystring info at all is because I wanted to make it smart for the sake of the remember me/cookie feature.. so if someone was using that and bookmarked a page deep in your site with querstring info...then when they went back to that bookmark they would get authenticated and still see the page as intended with the querystring info in tact
it was a nice feature never intended to handle any situations other than what I just described...
notice the url in the browser after failing a login.. then logging in successfully.. it is missing the querystring info
that more than anything is what is going on.. browser caching can cause some confusion when dealing with this because the browser likes to return you to the page minus the querstring info... when that happens a simple browser refresh at that time may very well solve the problem and then you see the page you are supposed to see...
To avoid all of this...
One solution to this is to always start people logging in to an ".asp" page that has no querystring info. That way this won't happen. Once they are logged in you can then offer them links to the pages they need to go to. (you of course still want to password protect those pages)
Another solution is to log them into a page with no querystring info and then do a response.redirect to the page with quersytring info.. thus accomplishing the same thing but without the possibility of the issue because of a failed login.
Another solutions is to do checks in your asp page for missing querstring info.. and if it isn't there do something about it like send them somewhere else.. or display a message about there being an error... etc etc
So,basically you don't want to tell people to login into such and such page with querstring info... and providing a username and password..... You can do it but like you found out it can cause an error if they mess up logging in the 1st time. The system just was not designed to handle that. There are complex reasons for that involving security that would just take me too long to explain.
I hope this makes some sense to you.. it is very hard to try and explain
If you are using an ACCESS Database try to avoid using a system DSN. They are much slower because they go through ODBC which then uses the Jet Drivers to access the database. They also have to do a registry lookup.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/database/dsn_vs_dnsless.asp, Great! Sounds good Chris. ,
It's funny because in the 4guys article they ask the question..
"Hmmmm... so who was right, Microsoft or Wrox?"
I'll tell you who was right and who said it 1st. It was me and I said it on my old powerasp.com site before anyone else ever did.
I found it out on my own by experimenting when I was the Systems Analyst for an large ISP. We we had web servers that were not running well. I didn't read about this solution anywhere because no one was talking about it at the time. Microsoft said use System DSN's so everyone just took their word for it.
I took a lot of heat for saying that back in the day but over time everyone started saying it.
When viewing a list of albums with the navigation option 1, is there a way to get the Time Created sort to list Newest to Oldest, instead of Oldest to Newest.
Looking at the code in albums_navigation1_inc.asp, I can not determine how this works.
Thanks for your help!
p.s. I always forget how addicting this stuff can be...lol.
Your going to have a lot of problems and a lot of the code will have to be re-written.
There are a lot of things in the the code that the MYSQL database system does not support or has issues with . I know because I once made a version of ASPBanner work with MYSQL and it took weeks of work to get it stable.
Null field types can cause problems... but mostly ADO updates which I don't think MYSQL supports at all. All of the ADO stuff would have have to be rewritten.. etc etc
That's probably why you cant get much of the code to write to the database.
Here is a generic example.
An update to an existing record using ADO
And update to an existing record using an update query.
All through the the code the ADO updates would have to converted to update queries which means a lot of work.
I used ADO a lot because I like it and it is little easier to validate data before it is written to the database.
It is also a little easier for customers to understand when they look at the code.
The app just was not designed to work with MYSQL.
It was specifically designed to work with MSSQL and MSACCESS only.
This holds true for all of our applications.
Your running off an IIS 5 Server so I would suggest just using MSACCESS as the database. The Photo Gallery app will run very well using MSACCESS. ,
thanks for posting this... Since "private" is the default setting from what I read and setting it to "public" cured the issue chances are leaving it at "public" is the way to go.,
ALSO: since you are one the few people that has ever contributed anything helpful to the forums I am going to reward you with a free copy of the password expiration mod. I am sending you a PM with the download info.
