Sorry, I am looking at your code on view_item.asp and I have noticed that you are calling 3 variable; start_date, end_date, and image_url that do not exist in the databases that you provided. Do I have the updated package for ASPVendor?
ya, that firewall could mess that up.,
just edit which ever style include you are using
(with a text editor)
it will be one of these depending on your settings.. and they are located in the "scripts" directory
find this section of code and remove the part in red
If Last_Counter_IP <> Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR") Then
Set CmdUpdateCounter = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
cmdTemp.CommandText = "SELECT " & tbl_label_albums & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (Album_ID = " & Album_ID & ")"
cmdTemp.CommandType = 1
Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = ConnGallery
CmdUpdateCounter.Open cmdTemp, , 1, 3
CmdUpdateCounter.Fields("Album_Counter") = (Album_Counter + 1)
CmdUpdateCounter.Fields("Last_Counter_IP") = Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")
Album_Counter = Album_Counter + 1
ok, well as far as what else to try I already told you..
you need to manually compare all those field settings with the sql script and make sure they all got set correctly...
you also need to tell me what email/name you ordered the application under... before I will continue this support with you.. at this point I don't know if you purchased the application or if you are using the unsupported lite version
Adding Support For ServerObjects ASPMail
ASPProtect as you know does not support ServerObjects ASPMail component by default.
Here are directions to make it work.
In the ASPProtect admin settings area simply pretend as if you are using the softartisans sasmtp mailer component. ASPMail and that sasmtp component share the same propertiesÖ and the code used for them is nearly identical.
So search through the code for any place where email is sent and simply change
Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SoftArtisans.SMTPMail")
Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")
It is about 4 places. They are not too hard to find.
Thatís the easy way to get all the emailing functions working with ASPMail
this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded.
Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
See my article on XP and permissions
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything,
After I approve someone's username and password, then go to send them the default e mail telling them of the approval, the e mail never goes through. The e mailing used to work well for many months, but it stopped working. Any thoughts?
I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.
see this article...
Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.,
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc
Microsoft has a free version of SQL server 2000 than you can run on a development machine.
This is really the same thing as the MSDN version of SQL server that comes with Visual Studio
No single database can exceed 2 gigabytes in size. However, each Desktop Engine server instance can contain many databases, each of which can be up to 2 gigabytes in size. Each computer can host up to sixteen instances of Desktop Engine.
Performance will rapidly decline when more than five simultaneous users use the database engine at the same time. With five users or less Desktop Engine will operate with full SQL Server speed.
It is limited in two ways.
After you install this your going to need a way to connect to your sql server as well as a way to run queires on it.
I suggest either install the client tools off any SQL 2000 Installation Disc (giving you enterprise manager and query manager)
or use the FREE SQL Server Web Data Administrator which will do amost everything you will need to do. It is really very slick
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=127& ; ; ;PN=1
Then you have a pretty sweet setup for testing and developing locally using SQL server.
If you are wondering why someone with a real SQL Server 2000 cd wouldn't just install the real SQL server locally it is because the server part will usually not install on XP Pro or non server versions of windows for licensing reasons. (at least every SQL 2000 CD I have is like that regardless of whether it is standard or enterprise) But the client side tools on the cd are invaluable so I just install the Desktop Version of SQL along with the client side tools and everything works great., Please try this URL www.telepedia.net/pages/chem_periex.asp
It is protected by GROUPACCESS "6" and the username:dimitris and password:tele
In the administration area, I have arranged this username as member of the group 6.
Thank you in advance for your help
Just wanted to say how much I like the program! I hunted for days and finally purchased a Perl based product. After several days of goofing with it I gave up. ASPPhoto worked right on first install!!!!
Way to go!,
Advertising ?? oh really.,
It was named that because that way if you already have a login.aspx file for whatever reason it does not interfere which is a good thing. It has nothing to do with advertising.
Next off you never mentioned having an issue with it saying aspprotect in it. I am EXTREMELY clear about what I support and do not regarding ASPProtect.NET. If you are upset because I didn't tell you exactly what to edit and change in visual studio.net and hold your hand you are out of line. My god, I sent you to like the best and most detailed tutorial on how to setup and use the application with VS.NET that could ever exist. That took forever to put together. I even responded to your post on Christmas on a Sunday. I doubt too many companies would have responded on Christmas.
More importantly than that when you purchase code from CJWSoft you are purchasing digital source code and there are no refunds. Every single page in the CJWSoft family states that very cleary in the footer. I do not appretiate it when someone threatens a chargeback and as far as I am concerned anyone that does that is commiting a crime of theft. I also do not appretiate smart comments saying it's "obvious" etc etc
If you wanted to strike a nerve with me you did. If you want to commit a crime and be a thief that is your business as well. Obviously I can not stop that and the credit card company will take your side. I work very hard on the source code I sell and my policies on everything are VERY clear.
Calling the credit card company ??
nice, real nice
The redirection feature isn't working as I exected.
If I clear a user's redirection_URL, they can navigate to any protected page on my website as expected.
However, if I set the user's redirection_URL to a protected page, they cannot login. More specifically, their browser just keeps displaying the login form while the browser's progress bar just increments ad infinitum.
If I set the user's redirection_URL to a NON-protected page, the user is directed to that non-protected page, but if they then try to navigate to a protected page, they are redirected back to the redirection_URL.
Is this the way the redirection feature is supposed to work?
My application requires that a user is directed to a protected page and from there, they can navigate to any page that they are allowed to go to.
What can I do?,
Banners no longer show up on my site ?
If banners were working fine and now they are just not showing up.
1st check to see that you are calling a valid zone with live banners in it.
If you are then most likely this it what hapened.
The web server must have crashed or lost power and now the application variables are in limbo/not working.
I have seen this happen a few times.
Basically the application variable system gets messed up because it was not shut down properlly.
The way to cure it are as follows.
Edit and save a banner in the system. Hopefully that gets things going again., Well, I had no more trouble after I read the instructions.
The PayPal integration is really neat stuff! WOW! And the email
users function got up and running in a snap... this is an awesome
The coolest thing with the user registration is that the account
username and password are selected by the user. That is very very nice.
Much less typing for me to do.
Sorry, should have added, if i change the connection string, i can also get this...
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified, One problem that is appearing is that in the admin section, in the users.aspx page, only one user is showing up when there are in fact 9 users. Also, when I click the edit user or email icon, the page does not go to the edit screen, it remains on the same page.
Also, Iíve been trying to modify the code to adapt it for our application -- by removing fields that we do not need such as address, city, state, phone, but I am having trouble getting visual studio to compile. It could be due to the fact that the rest of the project is in C#. Or it could be due to some other factor in ASP Protect.
I actually noticed something was up with your install earlier...
(I saw you in my log files when you clicked to cjwoft from the docs)
I need more info... like what uploading method your using.. what image resizing component, what widths yoru resizing things to... etc
have you tried it while telling it to delete the pics and also while not telling it not to delete them from the import folder
I might have to take a look tommoro as well to really figure it if that is ok, sorry for the confusion, but I am not that good with the tech explantions yet.
I have to go the bar to meet some friends so I wont be of much more help tonight :)
I been working steady all week and need a few.
what it boils down to is I have an Access Database containing over 100
members names. I want only those people to be able to get into
the secure pages.
, also, just to show you what happens when a user creates a subscription this is the code. you can see in red where the subscrition is is set and also where the exp date is set to null
If txn_type = "subscr_signup" Then
Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Set CmdEditUser = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
SQL = "SELECT " & tbl_label_users & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_users & " WHERE (User_ID = " & User_ID & ")"
CmdEditUser.Open SQL, ConnPasswords, 1, 3
CmdEditUser.Fields("Active") = "1"
CmdEditUser.Fields("Validated") = "1"
CmdEditUser.Fields("PayPal_Subscriber_ID") = subscr_id
CmdEditUser.Fields("Notes") = "Successful PayPal Subscription Signup on " & Date
CmdEditUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Null
If Access_Level <> "" Then
CmdEditUser.Fields("Access_Level") = Access_Level
If Groups <> "" Then
CmdEditUser.Fields("Groups") = Trim(Groups)
Set CmdEditUser = Nothing
Set ConnPasswords = Nothing
End If ,
I would like to create a login form on the home page which will not be password protected to the site for members so that they can login right from the home page and not a password protected page like many sites have. And every portal I have seen.
Plus the login form looks really pretty and proffesional on the home page ...
I can't find anything in the documentation that says how to do this or if it's even possible. Everything I have found says to password protect a page and then direct them there which isn't what I would like to do.
Here is the code of the login page which is an asp include file on the main page:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<td><img src="images/a026.jpg" alt="" width="187" height="21"></td>
<td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3">
<td><table width="180" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#AAAAAA">
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="178" height="1"></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><form name="form_login" method="post" action="">
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="0">
<td width="53%"><input name="textfield" type="text" class="style-01" value="username"></td>
<td width="47%"><a href="#" class="link-02">Forgot pass?</a> </td>
<td><input name="textfield2" type="text" class="style-01" value="password"></td>
<td><a href="#" class="link-02">Not registered?</a> </td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td colspan="3"><a href="#"><img src="images/a027.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="15" border="0"></a></td>
Does anybody know what values I would put in the form to send the correct login to AspProtect. And, if I would have to add any extra includes or code to it.
The password is HANNAH. If you're into trouble shooting mode and would like the key, I can send it to you. If not, no big deal, I've email the guy a new password. We'll see how many rounds it takes him to get it right.
Thanks, , The folder named Pictures permissions are set to your specs. It has jpg's that were uploaded per the aspphotogal instructions. But, the error message still appears and I am unable to access using aspphotogal., I do not what see what this has to do with anything I sell ?
Those errors are all related to pages that have nothing to do with my ASP applications and code.,
I'll try to help when I get back tues night,, see the contact page for info on where I am ,
SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
MySQL Database Setup
Use of MySQL is 100% unsupported as you can see from the site.
Even still I recently had an encouter with an extremely Jerky person (read the thread above for more on that) and because of him I am adding this tutorial showing one way to set things up on a windows server using the official MySQL tools available.
Let me just say as well that there are 100's of 3rd party tools to work with MySQL databases and many ways to create the database and apply the database creation script. In the past it had to be done via the command line, but now there are a lot of visual tools you can do it with. Furthermore all hosting companies set MySQL up differently and give you access to varius interfaces to manage it which are all different, and that is primarily why I do not support it. How the hell could I support all those different interfaces many of which are totally custom?
The fact is 99% of the people that purchased ASPBanner to use with MySQL have done so without issue and love how it runs. Regardless here is how I set up a working MySQL database on a windows server proving it does indeed run with a MySQL database.
1st of all if you are setting up the server you need to download some things from http://www.mysql.com/
(btw: you local developers can install this on XP Pro as well if you like.)
For this article we are going to download the current non beta windows version of MySQL which is 5.0. ALso known as the Windows Essentials (x86) download. It's about 17 meg.
Because ASPBanner uses the MyODBC drivers (now called Connector/ODBC) to connect to the MySQL database you need to download those as well. (Our site flat out says this is required for MySQL use)
So I download those from here. http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html
Version 3.51 has been the current version for a couple years now.
You want the windows driver install which is about 2 meg.
The two downloads should look like this.
Now, on the webserver you run the version 5 setup (mysql-essential-5.0.19-win32.msi) I will guide you through it step by setp.
I am going to choose typical for the sake of this article.
Wait for a bit
I skipped this part.
Choose to configure the MySQL Now
, nice idea. id be interested to see your modifications for ideas,
I am going to choose Detailed Configuration
Since I am on a development machine for this install I am going to choose Developer Machine. For a Real Server choose one of the server options.
For this article I am going to choose Multifunctional Database: You may want to pick one of the other options. That is up to you. ASPBanner will work under any of the scenarios.
I am going to leave the location at its default
Since this is a development machine these options are fine.
These options are fine as well.
Standard is fine for my development machine.
I am going to choose both of these options. The 1st one is Important and should be enabled on a real server so MySQL always runs. The 2nd is not so important.
Set the "root" password and do not forget it. You will need it to manage your MySQL server. I do not advise creating an anonymous account unless it is a development server and you just do not care. Whether you enable root access from remote machines or not is up to you so do some research on that. For this articles needs I am not choosing it.
Hit Execute and wait
If all goes well you will see this. (I actually got an error message about not being able to connect... I went to to Administrative tools/services and restarted the MySQL service and hit retry which cured that... it probably only did this to me since I have installed this before.. new installs probably will not have any trouble)
Your done.. You just installed the MySQL Server (TIP: its usally a good idea to reboot and make sure the MySQL servce is running by default)
Now, moving on..
Lets install the MyODBC drivers.. (now called Connector/ODBC)
This one is a bit of a no-brainer so I am not going to go into detail.
Just run (mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.12-win32.msi) and run through all the defaults until it is done.. Choose typical when that comes up.
Your done setting up MyODBC on the server. If its not your server I guess you don't need to worry about installing all of this as its your hosts job to do that.
sure, there are reasons AOL would block the email.. it might think it is spam or it might not like the fact that fact that a cdonts generated email has no MX records because it can not..
for more on MX records read my CDOSYS article
as far as the emails not being sent because notifications are off. I was not aware of that and will try to look into it.. Version 6 is no longer worked on but if I can find the time I will check that out
Ok time for some more questions!!!
Is there a way to make the person's email address their default username... or force it in somehow instead of allowing them to create their own?, Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.
I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it
, Thank you! I thought that is what had to be done, just didn't want to miss out on a short cut if there was one. Thanks again,
ok... glad ya figured it out.
Yes.. for ASP server side code to run the page extension must be ".asp". I was gonna mention that but I guess I just didnt think anyone would do that.
no offense.. not everyone works with this stuff every day.., it makes zero sense really... in the 4 years we have sold this application this is really the weirdest thing anyone has had happen..,
If I would like a link on my web page that will take someone to the login page (I would also like this page to contain forgot passord? and register) I am not entirely clear what file to link to to do this. Would it be check_user_inc.asp?
Thanks in advance?
5300 users honetly wouldn't even phase the database or the code... even with MSAccess...you got other problems and I can say that with 150% certainty,
my guess is permissions on the database folder are not quite right or the odbc drivers have issues.. something along those lines..
access databases act up when full modify permissions are not given to the folder they are in.... they can also act up if the odbc drivers are very new and you are not using a newer version of the access database such as 2002 version as opposed to a 97 or 2000 version
using a system dsn as opposed to a dsn-less connection can also cause BIG issues. always use a DSN-LESS connection
you can also have big problems if just the database file is given permissions instead of the whole directory it is in
also, the script timeout has nothing to do with it.. if that is happening something is wrong with the data connection like I said... no amount of changing timeouts is going to cure it...
how permissions are correctly set
why system dsn's with access databases are bad news
I know it worked at 1st but it can still be related to all of this because when permissions are not perfect databases will work ok for a while and then act up. it all has to do with the temporay lock files that access creates and deletes on a regualr basis
I have seen that happen before though it usually just happens once and then after that it doesn;t show up. It's the asphttp component doing it. The ASPBanner system is not doing it. I would try using banner calling method such as the xml parser method. It's usually installed by default on 200 and 2003 servers.cwilliams38248.6400115741,

yea.. it sounds like aspimage is not working right.
You wont get any errors..
I would suggest using some of aspimage's sample asp pages in your web and see if they do their thing. You need to be sure aspimage is working correctly under the ,ost simple of circumstances
Though ASPImage is the standard in ASP image resizing and has been around forever and it works very well. Their support is almost non-existant.. in 6 years they have never answered any email I have sent them. I have sent them 6 or so over the years and then just stopped trying. I bought a server bundle too way back then for like 300.00 or so when we had a company called gisco. You would think they could answer my emails. I think that guy just made a ton of asp components back in the day and then just took a seriously long vacation. Updated them a few times in between when he felt like it and making good money the whole time.. More power too him I guess. I'd love to be in his shoes when he sells an enterprise license for 3000.00. Maybe he isn't even around anymore and the someone he knows just kept the sales going. Who knows.., Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Anyway... it does a great job when ya get it working.
Personally this is how I install it and it works every time.
I like to put their dll in the system32 folder.
Run their licensing prog to make it a full version if you paid for it yet.
Right click on the dll and give the "everyone" account modify permissions
Right click on the "windows/temp" folder and give it the same permissions
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days.,
